Look Out Kindergarten, Here I Come!

By Gail Hutt

We have been waiting for this special day and now it is finally here. We are in Kindergarten! In just three short weeks we have experienced so much. From exploring and learning to making new friends, Kindergarten holds so many surprises. To help us get comfortable with this new adventure we read many wonderful books about going to school. A favorite story was “The Kissing Hand.” Little Chester raccoon discovers that it is o.k. to miss his mommy and home, but that school is a place where there are many special people who care for us also. After reading the story we went on a hunt and by following the clues in Chester’s notes we met many great workers at school who will be here to help us learn and grow. On our way back to the classroom we discovered Chester’s paw prints in the hall. He had left a special letter for us and some wonderful treats to enjoy. What fun! We also painted a keepsake gift for our parents to comfort them when they are missing us. We made magic playdoh to remind us of the magic ahead as we learn in school. We also enjoyed learning many facts about bears. We heard stories, sang songs and rhymes and had teddy bear games. We made bear puppets and acted out “¬¬¬¬¬¬Goldilocks & the Three Bears.” We enjoyed a teddy bear picnic of fish crackers and honey. Yum! Yum! We also found and listened to “The Teddy Bear Picnic” song on the internet. What a “beary” special beginning to our school experience.
